Aspiring Medical Professionals Visit Medical Examiner's Office

Mahopac High School’s Aspiring Medical Professionals Club recently took an eye-opening trip to the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office, offering students a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the intersection of medicine and the legal system.

During the visit, students learned about the critical role forensics plays in both preventative medicine and criminal investigations. They toured lab facilities where autopsies are performed and heard directly from the head medical examiner, who shared insights from his work on several high-profile cases and discussed real-life health risks.

“This was a great trip for our incredible students and one they will not forget,” science teacher and club adviser Jennifer Degl said. “We were the first high school group to visit their facility in many years. I am lucky to be the advisor to this group of young scientists.”

The trip provided a valuable and unforgettable experience for students interested in pursuing careers in medicine, forensics or public health.
