SkillsUSA State Champ

Mahopac High School senior Joshua Leon earned first place at the New York State SkillsUSA Championship in the Technical Computer Applications competition, representing the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Microcomputer Technology program.

The competition challenged students through a series of technical assessments, including an 80-question computer knowledge exam, Microsoft Office performance tasks and a Linux scripting challenge. Leon outperformed competitors from across the state to claim the title of state champion, after earning third place in the competition last year.

With this achievement, Leon will go on to represent New York at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta from June 1-6.

“Josh’s accomplishment is a testament to his hard work and commitment to his craft, and he continues to challenge himself at a very high level,” Mahopac High School Principal Patrick Keevins said. “We are incredibly proud of him and look forward to seeing all that he accomplishes at the national level.”

Leon plans to attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he will major in cybersecurity and information technology and minor in security management.
